Update on Southern Link Road and Crookbarrow Way

Further update from Worcestershire County Council 10/08/20

Further to the update below regarding the closure of Crookbarrow Way next weekend to facilitate tensioning of the bridge hangers and completion of painting, our contractor has notified us that the painting element of the work (by sub-contractors) is going to take significantly longer than they had expected and they are going to need to take advantage of the overnight closures already booked as a contingency for the following weekend. On a positive note they have been able to reduce the duration of the closures on the first weekend. The road closure plans are therefore as follows:

Crookbarrow Way and the Crookbarrow Way Footbridge will be closed:

From 4am on Saturday 15th August until 5am on Monday 17th August (ie two days and nights)

and

From 7pm until 7am on Friday 21st/Saturday 22nd/Sunday 23rd August (ie 3 x overnight only closures)

If there are any opportunities to close the road and/or footbridge later or reopen them earlier they will, of course be taken.

None of the work is expected to be noisy but we will update the immediate neighbours on the changes shortly as a matter of courtesy as they may notice the floodlighting and wonder what it is.

Update from Worcestershire County Council

The Crookbarrow Way Footbridge ramps will be closed on Monday 3rd August for up to 2 weeks for work on the parapet fence and handrails to be completed. This work will be carried out during normal working hours. Advance notice signage will be displayed later this week. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the ramps and steps will be fully open thereafter.

Crookbarrow Way (foot/cycleway and carriageway) and Crookbarrow Way Footbridge will be fully closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday 14th until 5am on Monday 17th August to carry out some final touches to the Crookbarrow Way Footbridge that have been delayed due to Covid-19. This includes painting some small sections of steelwork and re-tensioning the bridge hangers which is a standard procedure once a bridge of this kind has “settled”. We will take advantage of the closure to carry out other works on Crookbarrow Way that would otherwise require a closure or lane restrictions eg landscaping. Some of the work on the bridge will take place at night and will require floodlighting. Although we do not expect the work to be noisy, we will deliver letters to immediate neighbours as a courtesy early next week. There may be some periods of inactivity during the closures while, for example, paint cures, but we will try to be as efficient with the time as possible. A diversion for the road closure will be signed via London Road/Bath Road (high-sided vehicles have an alternative route) and advanced warning signs will be displayed on site early next week. If the road and or bridge can be closed slightly later on the Friday and/or opened earlier than the Monday morning, they will be.

We have taken the precaution of booking a closure for the following weekend as contingency in case adverse weather prevents the work being completed as planned.
